A 14-foot boat, purchased on Kijiji, has sunk in Pittock Lake.

Woodstock police responded to a call at the Pittock Conservation Area about 7:30 p.m. Friday and found four people, wearing life jackets, who had managed to make it to shore. They had been fishing on the boat.

They say the boat, which had an outboard motor, was tested prior to purchase.

Police believe the motor and the four occupants were too heavy as the boat began taking on water.

Attempts were made to remove the vessel, but it was not possible at that time.

The Ministry of the Environment is expected to be on site Monday to assess any environmental damage and direct any clean up. Further efforts will be made to remove the boat.

A 31-year-old Kitchener resident was charged with operating a pleasure craft without prescribed competency.

There were no injuries.
