Several people were hit with bear spray during an altercation in St. Thomas.

Police were called to a dispute at a Malakoff Street residence on Tuesday around 12 p.m.

An argument broke out between tenants and that's when the bear spray was deployed.

Two people had to be taken to hospital.

Police say a replica BB handgun was also used and a man was shot with it, but not seriously hurt.

A 32-year old St. Thomas man is facing numerous assault and weapons charges.

He was held pending a bail hearing.

A 39-year old St. Thomas man was also charged and released with a future court date.

Police say bear spray is legal to own, but it is a prohibited weapon when used on another person.
