London's H.B. Beal Secondary School is looking for support to head to a world championship robotics event after picking up a big award at the FIRST Robotics competition in Windsor, Ont.

The Beal Raider Robotics earned the Rookie All Star award at the FIRST Robotics competition on the weekend, despite the greatest number of rookie teams ever from Canada this year.

The award goes to the first-year team that shows all-around outstanding achievement, including robot build, community outreach and sustainability

Teacher Ivan Arneill said in a statement "The students on the team, the mentors and our corporate sponsors were overjoyed by this achievement,”and the excitement continues as the team is working hard to get ready for the world championship.

The event takes place in St. Louis, Missouri from April 23-26, and the team is looking for donations to help fund their trip.

Arneill added "Help support Raider Robotics from H. B. Beal S. S. by making a donation, getting a car wash or offering kind words of encouragement as the students raise funds for the World Championship."

The fundraising car wash is being held Saturday, April 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at H.B. Beal, 525 Dundas Street. Drivers are asked to enter from King Street past Maitland Street.

A wash and dry will run you $10, add a vaccuum for an additional $10. Extremely dirty or oversized vehicles could cost more.
