Snow squall warnings issued by Environment Canada for Wingham and Blyth in northern Huron County have ended, but the damage is done.

The snow squalls came ashore from Lake Huron near Point Clark and extended southeast inland to the Wingham area.

There was very low visibility at times with bursts of heavy snow. Local snowfall amounts of 10 centimetres were expected in the heaviest snow squalls Wednesday morning.

Motorists were asked to be cautious, with the possibility that visibility could suddenly be reduced to 500 metres or less in the snow squalls, even when the visibility just a short distance away is good under partly sunny skies.

There are already some reports of collisions.

A large high pressure ridge edgin closer was expected to reduce the snow to flurries by the afternoon.
