The heat is on in London and it's not just the weather.

The London West byelection heated up Thursday night with an all-candidate's debate and an anti-government protest.

The candidates staked out their party's territory on the issues.

“Contrary to what Tim Hudak is claiming, we will not grow our economy with across the board cuts to services and a U.S.-style race to the bottom,” says Liberal candidate Ken Coran.

The first few days of the campaign focused on the political background of the candidates, but it now seems to have shifted to the economy.

“Over the last 10 years of Dalton McGuinty and now Kathleen Wynne we have lost jobs and our debt and our deficit is spiraling out of control,” says Ali Chahbar, PC candidate.

Education was also a hot topic.

“I saw the government, supported by Tim Hudak and the Tories, playing political football with our kids’ education,” says Peggy Sattler, NDP candidate.

Protesting physiotherapists brought their campaign against spending cuts to the meeting at Oakridge Presbyterian Church.

“We want to get all of the shareholders together to sit down and to really dialogue,” says John Fargis, physiotherapist . “To figure out how to best spend the limited funds that we may have.”
