40 to 80 cm of snow in some areas: Blizzard and snow squall warnings up across the region

Winter-related watches and warnings have rolled across much of southern Ontario with blowing snow, reducing visibility on roadways.

"Blizzard warnings continue in midwestern Ontario, northern Huron County, southern Bruce County, as well as southern Grey under Blizzard warnings," said CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. "Snowfall rates in those areas about five to 10 centimeters per hour blowing snow, zero visibility."

Intense bands of lake effect snow generating significant amounts of accumulation, Atchison added, "Some areas are seeing 40 to 80 centimeters as some of the squalls come in and such set up shop rather as we head into the afternoon and evening."

Heading into Friday,  the forecast will feature a mix of sun and clouds, slight risk for flurries in London first thing in the morning, the high just -7, still dealing with bitterly cold wind chills.

Tonight: Partly cloudy with 40 per cent chance of flurries. Wind west 20 km/h gusting to 40 becoming light before morning. Low minus 12. Wind chill near minus 19.

Friday: A mix of sun and cloud with 40 percent chance of flurries early in the morning then sunny. Wind up to 15 km/h. High minus 5. Wind chill minus 18 in the morning and minus 7 in the afternoon.

Saturday: Cloudy. High zero.

Sunday: Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of showers. High 6 degrees.

Monday: Cloudy. High plus 5 degrees.
