Grey County OPP say a 16-year-old male is facing charges after his mother was reportedly assaulted in the family's home.

Police were called to a home in Markdale around 5:30 p.m. on Monday for reports of an assault in progress.

According to investigators, the suspect became angry after being confronted about smoking inside the home, went outside and damaged his mother's car, and when she tried to stop him she was assaulted.

The woman them reportedly tried to go back inside but was chased and again assaulted, at which point she locked herself in a bathroom, but the the accused broke down the door and continued the assault.

When they arrived on scene, police say the youth was outside the residence.

He is facing charges including assault with a weapon; three counts of Aassault and two counts of mischief under $5,000.

He was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Tuesday.

The 44-year-old woman was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
