St. Thomas police say a woman has been charged after nearly colliding with a cruiser, allegedly while driving impaired.

An officer on general patrol early Friday morning around 12:30 a.m. in the area of Kains Street, had to swerve to avoid a head-on collision.

Police say a Ford Windstar had crossed the yellow line into the path of the cruiser.

The officer turned his cruiser around and executed a traffic stop. A roadside test was done, where police say the woman registered more than two times the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

The 52-year-old driver was arrested and charged with impaired driving.
