Two people have been charged after a Windsor police officer was assaulted during a traffic stop on Sunday evening.

The officer had stopped a Ford F-150 pickup on the eastbound on-ramp of the E.C. Row Expressway at Central Avenue around 7:30 p.m.

Detecting the odour of alcohol, the officer administered a roadside test and the driver registered a 'fail.'

As the 29-year-old Windsor man was being arrested, police say two of four female passengers in the pickup got out and began shouting and swearing at the officer.

One of the women then allegedly ran toward the officer and shoved him, as she attempted to do it again, the officer restrained her.

She attempted to break free but was soon handcuffed.

The driver is facing a charge of exceed 80 milligrams blood alcohol content.

The female passenger, a 26-year-old Windsor woman, faces charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
