Two Walpole Island men are facing several charges after a member of the island’s police service was sent to hospital Saturday with what police call substantial injuries.

Police say the officer was arresting a male on an outstanding warrant and became involved in an altercation between the man and his brother. The officer was assaulted and more officers came to the scene.

The constable has since been released from hospital.

Lambton OPP investigated the incident and laid charges.

Edward A. Sands, 27, is charged with:

  • Aggravated assault of a peace officer
  • Resist a peace officer
  • Disarming a peace officer
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a controlled substance

Walter C. Sands, 20, is charged with:

  • Aggravated assault of a peace officer
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Choking
  • Disarming a peace officer
