A driver has been taken to hospital after a tree came down on an SUV in the southern part of the city.

Emergency crews were called to Dingman Drive and Whiteoaks Road late Thursday afternoon.

The tree struck the vehicle during a severe rain storm that hit London.

The driver was taken to hospital for a precautionary exam.

There were reports that hydro was also out in the area.

Meanwhile, there is a severe thunderstorm watch for London-Middlesex. Environment Canada says the storm is capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

The watch is also in effect for Elgin and Oxford and there is a severe thunderstorm warning in place for Huron-Perth.
