A 50-year-old man is facing a charge of careless driving after his van ended up in the Avon River in Stratford.

Stratford Police say they were notified of the incident around 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators say the man hit an unattended parked vehicle while driving on Lakeside Drive, then ended up veering across the road and into the water.

The Mitchell man driving the van received what police called “very minor” injuries.

Fire officials cleaned up the debris and checked to ensure no contaminants had entered the river.
