A traffic light pole had to be replaced early Saturday in Owen Sound after it was struck by a vehicle.

Police said it happened about 3 a.m. on 16th Street East at 20th Avenue East.

The driver lost control of his vehicle and it left the road and struck the pole. There was extensive damage to the vehicle.

A passerby reported the incident to police.

A 43-year-old Meaford man was located and arrested for suspected impaired driving. After testing, police say he had double the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

He did not require medical attention.

The man is charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in the blood. The driver also faces an automatic 90-day licence suspension and the impoundment of his vehicle.
