London Humane Society officials say an owner's negligence led to a cat having its leg amputated, and the feline is now looking for a new home.

The black and white cat, Samarah, was taken in by the humane society after her owner failed to properly care for an injury.

The cat had reportedly fallen off her owner's balcony, fracturing her right, front leg. She was taken to the vet where her leg was splinted and bandaged with instructions to return in two weeks to have the dressing changed.

But officials say the cat's owner waited nearly two months to have the cat seen again, at which point it was discovered that her leg and skin was dying and the only option was amputation.

As the owner was not able to afford the surgery, the cat was surrendered to the London Humane Society.

Executive director Judy Foster said in a statement, “Samarah has made a remarkable recovery and is now available for adoption...We are hoping she can find her home for the holidays, but also want to remind people that having pets does come with unexpected expenses.”

The London Humane Society is reminding the public they are available to assist if someone is no longer able to provide adequate care for their pets.
