OPP have laid charges under Ontario's stunt driving legislation after a taxi and a passenger van with eight people aboard were each stopped for speeding.

Middlesex County OPP have charged 68-year-old Murray Robinson of St. Marys after a taxi was stopped travelling 132 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

Officials say the vehicle was westbound on Elginfield Road around 6 a.m. on Thursday when it was stopped by an officer for speeding and found to be a cab from Perth County.

Robinson was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled for a court date in June. His driver's licence was seized at the scene and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Meanwhile a Perth County OPP officer followed a full-size passenger van travelling at high speed near Millbank around 4 a.m. on Thursday.

The officer was able to clock the van at 137 km/h in a 80 km/h zone on Perth Road 107 south of Hamptead before stopping it in Amulree.

The driver, a 31-year-old man from London, was charged with racing a motor vehicle, as well as failing to surrender permit for motor vehicle and failing to have insurance card after being unable to produce the correct documentation.

His driver's licence was suspended for seven days and the Ford Econoline van, which was registered to a poultry company, was towed from the scene and impounded for seven days.

The driver and the seven passengers had to contact a local cab company to transport them from the scene.

The driver was issued a summons to appear in a Stratford court in May.
