A 16-year-old girl ended an attempt to swim 75 kilometres across Lake Erie a little early after consulting with her swim coach and officials Saturday.

The decision was made for Annaleise Carr to end the crossing at Long Point. She had hoped to reach Port Dover.

A media spokesperson says Annaleise arrived on shore at 4 a.m.

"The swim raised something like $130,000 for Camp Trillium and Annaleise has raised the much needed awareness for the foundation that she wanted," says Aaron Gautreau.

Annaleise was also using the swim to promote water safety.

"The community still gave Annaleise a hero's welcome as she arrived in Port Dover shortly after 5 a.m. on boat," he says.

Annaleise started her swim at 5:21 a.m. Friday.

The Walsh, Ont. native had been swimming six to eight hours a day to prepare for what she expected would be a gruelling 30-hour swim.

Two years ago Carr swam across Lake Ontario at the age of 14, becoming the youngest person known to have ever accomplished the feat.
