Low on power with nowhere to plug in? There's now an eco-friendly way to power up your device in downtown London.

Two Solar Street Chargers - that can each charge up to six mobile devices at once - are now up and running in the city.

The pair - one at Richmond Street and Central Avenue in Richmond Row and the other outside the Covent Garden Market - are the first public solar-powered device chargers in Canada.

Janette MacDonald, CEO of Downtown London, said in a statement, "When someone's phone battery is about to die, they often go home...These charging stations add to our vibrant public spaces and allow visitors, shoppers or diners to have a longer, more convenient experience downtown."

The chargers work day or night, in sun or shade, using powerful internal batteries.

The devices were first used in New York City after Hurricane Sandy and have since become popular permanent fixtures there.
