Oxford County OPP officers are investigating Wednesday after a transport truck went into the Nith River near Ayr a day earlier.

Police were called to the eastbound lanes of Highway 401, west of the Trussler Road overpass, regarding a tractor trailer that had left the roadway and was submerged in the waters of the Nith River.

Two bodies were recovered from the scene late Tuesday. The driver was transported to Hamilton General Hospital for a post mortem examination on Wednesday.

The male driver has since been identified as Anand Vora, 38, and the male passenger has been identified as 37-year-old Jasjit Sandhu. Both men are from Brampton, Ont..

OPP officers, the dive team, technical traffic collision investigators, Drumbo fire department, Oxford County Emergency Medical Services and heavy equipment operators all helped with the recovery operation.

All three eastbound lanes were closed for 11 hours on Tuesday.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Highway 401 eastbound between Oxford Road 29 and the Trussler Road overpass will see partial lane closures as the cleanup continues.
