City staff in London are recommending the Civic Works committee put the brakes on London's plan to bring in red light cameras -- at least for now.

Staff say the city should hold off from entering into any contracts for cameras until it's known for sure whether the city will get the revenue from them.

The uncertainty comes down to a potential new penalty system at the provincial level, which could redirect fine revenue for some offences to Queen's Park from cities.

If the city was to lose that money, it wouldn't have the cash to fund the 10 cameras it had planned to install by January 1st, 2017.
