An early-morning swim for one St. Thomas man on Tuesday didn’t leave him feeling refreshed. Instead, he was placed in a cell awaiting a bail hearing.

Police say police approached the male about 3 a.m. after receiving information a wanted person was in Pinafore Park.

The man fled and it led to a lengthy foot chase through backyards in the area of Sandpiper Place and Mourning Dove Lane.

Police thought the chase was done when they cornered the man between a tree, the water and a line of officers, but the man went into the pond.

Police say he made it halfway across the pond, before the clothes he was wearing and the frigid water  impeded him.

They say when the man realized there were more officers on the other side, he decided to swim to back to shore.

The 41-year-old man was arrested on an outstanding warrant,
