An 18-year-old man is facing a slew of charges after a police chase that required officers to use a spike belt to stop a stolen truck.

Police tried to pull over a vehicle on Longwoods Road near Westdel Bourne around 2 a.m. Monday, but the driver ignored the officer and kept going.

The officer tried to get the driver’s attention when he swerved and struck the cruiser.

The officer wasn’t injured, the cruiser sustained minor damage.

Other officers from the Chippewas of the Thames Police Service, Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation Police Service and the Munsee Delaware Nation Police Service were called to assist.

A spike belt was deployed and the vehicle came to a stop and the suspect was arrested without incident.

An 18-year-old man from Southwest Middlesex has been charged with:

  • Flight while pursued by peace officer
  • Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession break-in instruments
  • Drive motor vehicle with no licence

The suspect was held in custody and scheduled to appear at the London courthouse on Monday.
