Thousands turned out along the Highway of Heroes Friday as the body of a Hamilton reservist gunned down at the National War Memorial in Ottawa this week made its way home.

A motorcade carrying Corporal Nathan Cirillo travelled from from the national capital to Hamilton.

Members of Cirillo's regiment, the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, were part of the motorcade as were the Ontario Provincial Police.

The 24-year-old father of a young son is expected to get a full regimental funeral on Tuesday.

In London, the loss of Cirillo, as well as the death of Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent, were marked at the London cenotaph Friday,

Two veterans were symbolically taking the place of Cirillo, completing his guard shift at the London cenotaph.

"For the military, when one man goes down, another steps in - so that's what we're doing, we're finishing the shift," says veteran Randy Warden.

A candelight vigil was also planned at the London cenotaph at 8 p.m.
