Western's engineering students will soon be using top-of-the-line software courtesy of Siemens PLM Software.

The in-kind software grant has a staggering commercial value of more than $522 million.

The partnership means students in the Faculty of Engineering will use the same software used around the world for design, manufacturing and engineering in the automotive, aerospace, machinery, medical and electronics industries, among others.

Siemens' software is used by 29 of the worlds top 30 automakers and more than 77,000 businesses.

Western Engineering Dean Andrew Hrymak says, "Our students will gain real-world experience during their studies by using the same technology in the classroom that is used by companies all over the world."

Dora Smith, global director of Siemens' Academic Partner Program, adds, "Through our academic partnership with Western University, we are empowering the next generation of engineers."

London-based Longterm Technology Services Inc., a Siemens partner, worked closely with Western and Siemens to establish the partnership.
