A settlement was reached Tuesday in the civil suit Irnes Zeljkovic launched against Western University and its campus police.

It was an abrupt end to the case that began in a London courtroom a week and a half ago.

Zeljkovic was suing for excessive force in an arrest five years ago. The court heard he was suffering from a psychotic episode at the time.

The arrest was videotaped and uploaded to YouTube and viewed more than 400,000 times.

The details of the settlement are confidential.

Zeljkovic 's lawyer Phillip Millar wouldn’t comment on what it contained, but said a new video of Western security footage surfaced.

“It was disclosed to us yesterday that had never been disclosed for five years. It came out of Western's security cameras so we did get a chance to watch that yesterday. But I can say today we're very happy this matter is settled.”

Zeljkovic is relieved it’s over.

“It definitely has been a very painful and emotional experience going through this process, especially when the actual incident happened,” he said outside court.

“Now we actually went through trial and my story was heard. Now that things are resolved, my name's cleared and I'm real happy about that.”

He’s trying to help others struggling with mental illness.

“My main goal is really to de-stigmatize mental health. I want it to be a topic that should be openly talked about. People should be able to share some of their issues with other people; it shouldn't be hidden.

Zeljkovic is now working on his masters of social work in clinical counselling at Wilfird Laurier University. He says he hopes to help others going through psychotic breaks, eventually in a university setting.
