They're calling it a once in 50-years rainfall.

The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority says their rain gauges show 73 millimetres of rain fell near Listowel, Ont. in the past 48 hours.

Approximately 79 millimetres fell near Molesworth, Ont. most of which fell Tuesday afternoon in a 1 hour timeframe. Officials say it’s the most rain that's ever fallen in one hour in that area.

The conservation authority says water will be high and fast moving for the next 24 to 48 hours and are warning people to stay away from rising rivers and streams until Thursday.

Seaforth was probably the hardest hit in the region with the flooding of Lion's Park near the hospital.

Some streets and basements were also flooded by Tuesday's short, but intense rainfall.
