As students return to school, OPP and London police are asking drivers to be more aware so everyone can stay safe.

With all the excitement, London police say many youngsters will likely be a little rusty when it comes to the rules of the road and around school buses.

Both London police and Middlesex OPP will be out in force in and around school zones, and are urging drivers to watch the road, stay focused on driving and take their time.

Middlesex OPP Detachment Commander Tony Cristilli said in a statement, “We will be out in the school zones across Middlesex County this week looking for speeders, distracted drivers, aggressive drivers and anyone who fails to obey the laws that are in place to help keep our communities safe.”

Police are also reminding drivers about stopping for school buses when their lights are flashing - as failing to stop can bring a fine of $400 to $2,000 and six demerit points for a first offence.

Parents are also asked to talk to children about road safety and traffic awareness.
