Sarnia police say they have identified and arrested a sexual assault suspect, thanks to tips from the public Tuesday.

Police were searching for the suspect after a 15-year-old girl told police she was attacked Sunday night.

They had surveillance video they released to the public of the man.

Police say the teen was stalked in the downtown area around 8 p.m. and was grabbed from behind near the board of education building between Brock and Vidal Streets. The man covered the girl’s mouth with his hand and assaulted her. She was able to break free and ran to the Sarnia Arena for help.

Police say charges are pending.
