The Ontario Special Investigations Unit says a London police officer has been charged in connection with a crash that sent five people, including the officer to hospital.

Const. Leah Constance Laari has been charged with dangerous driving following a crash on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013 that involved the police cruiser, a civilian vehicle and two pedestrians.

The cruiser was southbound on Adelaide Street responding to a robbery call around 11 a.m. when it struck a black car that was eastbound on Oxford Street. That car then struck two pedestrians.

The officer suffered undisclosed injuries while the driver and passenger in the car and the two pedestrians all suffered minor injuries and were treated in hospital.

The SIU investigation found that there were reasonable grounds to charge the officer with a criminal offence in relation to the collision.

Laari is scheduled to appear in a London court on Feb. 27.
