A 53-year-old man’s licence has been suspended and his motorcycle impounded after police say he rode it on Sarnia’s Centennial Park boardwalk while impaired.

On Friday morning, police say an officer spotted the motorcycle travelling north on the boardwalk around 2:40 a.m. The driver sped past the area of the Duc D’Orlean’s cruise ship, then stopped his motorcycle, dismounted and was observed to stagger, police said.

The officer said he smelled of alcohol and had difficultly producing his driver’s licence.

The officer read the driver a roadside screening device demand which the male refused to provide.  After several chances, the male continuously refused to comply.

The man was arrested for failing to provide a breath sample and charged.

His driver’s licence has been automatically suspended for 90 days and his motorcycle held for seven days.

Police say refusing to provide a breath sample on a lawful demand carries the same penalties as impaired driving upon conviction.
