A London athlete, who represented Canada at the 2015 ParaPan Am Games in Toronto, is devastated after her home was broken into and her most prized possession taken.

Tammy McLeod, a 38-year-old paralympic boccia athlete who is living with cerebral palsy, says she was at the gym training when someone broke into her apartment and ransacked her belongings.

Among the items taken was her bronze medal from the ParaPan Am Games, which marked the biggest milestone in her career thus far.

Other valuables stolen include a memento coin she received from after competing at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, England.

She has represented Canada in a total of four Paralympic Games as well as three world championships and four world cup events.

Her mother, Brenda McLeod, tells CTV News her daughter is devastated at the loss and she hopes whoever did this will return the medal.

"If this person has any type of remorse at all, if they could please just drop it off with a note to a radio station, to a police station - we just want to get it back."

This is not the first time a Paralympic medal has been stolen - a similar incident happened last summer in Montreal.

The Canadian Paralympic Committee says they would replace the medal if it is not returned, but for Tammy the original holds strong sentimental value as it was given to her on Canadian soil in front of her fellow Canadians.
