Middlesex OPP are warning motorists about poor driving conditions throughout the county, especially on the 402.

Blowing snow is causing dangerous conditions between the 401 in London and Sexton Rd. in Adelaide-Metcalfe.

In the past 24 hours, Middlesex OPP have responded to 60 motor vehicle collisions, including numerous crashes involving tractor trailers on the 402.

Police say residents should consider delaying or rescheduling any travel and stay home.

OPP have some tips if driving is absolutely necessary:

• Slow down and take your time – road conditions can change abruptly

• Leave earlier and don’t rush

• Pay attention and don’t be distracted

• See and be seen – make sure your windows are clear and your lights are on

• Keep a greater distance between your vehicle and the one you’re following - it takes longer to stop on slippery roads

• When travelling a long distance, let friends and/or family know your route and your expected time of arrival – be sure to check in on arrival at your destination

• Before you leave make sure your cell phone is charged and your vehicle is ready to go

Police also have tips for motorists in regards to their vehicles:

• Do you have snow tires?

• Did you have your vehicle serviced for winter to ensure the brakes are in good condition, the battery is in good condition, all the fluids (oil, radiator and transmission) are topped up, the heater and defroster are in good working order

• Are your windshield wipers are working well? Be sure to carry an extra bottle of windshield washer anti-freeze, and keep the reservoir topped up.

• Get a good ice scraper and brush to clear off snow and ice

• Make sure all your lights are in proper working order
