An OPP cruiser has been struck by two different vehicles on Highway 402 in Middlesex County.

The collisions happened on Sunday, November 20th, 2016 while police were investigating a motorist who had gone into the centre median on the 402, east of Centre Road.

Police say that a tow truck with its amber lights activated was assisting the motorist when the cruiser, also with its emergency lights activated and flares set up behind the vehicles, was struck by a passing motorist.

The initial collision was minor, but once that vehicle was cleared out of the way, a second vehicle struck the rear of the cruiser causing serious damage. The officer involved was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

The two drivers who struck the OPP cruiser have been charged with careless driving.

The OPP is urging drivers in Middlesex County to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.
