Provincial police say they are disappointed with the number of charges laid during the Festive RIDE campaign.

Officials say one person also die in an impaired-related crash on Dec. 20, 2014.

During the campaign from Nov. 24, 2014 to Jan. 2, 2015, OPP laid 593 impaired charges and issued 485 warn range suspensions.

Police say the numbers show little change from the 2013-14 campaign when OPP laid 587 impaired charges and issued 504 warn range suspensions.

Three people also lost their lives in impaired-related road crashes during the last RIDE campaign.

Officers conducted more than 8,000 RIDE stops across Ontario during the most recent campaign.

OPP Deputy Commissinr Brad Blair said in a statement, “A driver who is impaired by alcohol or drugs is a driver who does not deserve to operate a motor vehicle alongside drivers who are responsible. Public intervention and continued education by both the police and valued community stakeholders is the only way that we as a society can continue to reduce occurrences involving impaired operation."

The OPP are thanking those who did not drive over the holidays while impaired by drugs or alcohol and those that took action to help prevent someone from driving drunk.
