London's Old East Village has been selected as the People's Choice for Great Neighbourhood in the 2014 Great Places in Canada contest.

The area was one of six winners, after 14 finalists were selected from 32 nominees for the contest hosted by the Canadian Institute of Planners.

Calgary's Inglewood neighbourhood, another of the five finalists in the category, picked up the top Great Neighbourhood prize.

Grand Prize and People's Choice winners were also announced for Great Streets and Great Public Spaces categories.

People's Choice is determined by votes, while the Grand Prize winners are selected by Canadian planners for planning excellence.

A full list of winners is available on the Great Places website.
