An OPP officer involved in a collision while responding to a call in Petrolia has been charged with failing to stop for a red light.

The officer, a member of the West Region OPP Emergency Response Team, was involved in a collision around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

At the time, poilice were dealing with reports of an armed robbery at a bank in Petrolia.

The marked OPP pickup truck was westbound on Petrolia Line when it struck a Ford SUV that was southbound on Oil Heritage Road.

The driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old Plympton-Wyoming woman, suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital and released.

The officer, Sgt. Peter Vanderheide, an 18-year member of the force, was not injured.

He was issued a provincial offences notice for red light – fail to stop contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
