A mom and her son were able to get out safely after a fire broke out in their Huron County home.

Crews were called to the home near Bluevale around 6 a.m. after the mother and son awoke to flames.

The Black Line house was almost destroyed by fire. The homeowner says they just rebuilt this home eight years ago after fire claimed their previous home.

The Fire Marshal's Office has been called in to investigate. Damage is pegged at $200,000.

"The message is it can happen to everybody. This is a rural area and it takes us a while to get here. If you're not out when we get here, this could have been a much worse day," says fire prevention officer James Marshall.
