Two kittens have been rescued by Woodstock police after an alert caller spotted a bag in the bed of a pickup - that was moving.

Officers were called to a business on Norwich Avenue on Monday after a report of possible animal cruelty.

Police say a caller reported a man driving a red pickup through a local drive thru with a burlap bag in the back of the truck.

The caller apparently told police the bag was moving and kittens could be heard howling from the sack.

At the scene, police say they rescued two kittens and took then to a nearby veterinary clinic.

The kittens were reportedly in fair condition, though both had elevated core body temperatures.

The Ontario SPCA and Hillside Kennels will continue the investigation into the incident and handle continued care for the kittens.

However, the owner of the business where the kittens were rescued has offered to pay for any expenses incurred for the pair.

Police have charged a 51-year-old Norwich man with causing animals to suffer and he is scheduled to appear in court in October.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Woodstock police at 519-537-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
