The body of a man who fell into Lake St. Clair while boating Friday night has been recovered.

Around 8 p.m., a 44-year-old man fell off a 27-foot powerboat near Metro Beach on Lake St. Clair and never came up.

He was wearing a red life jacket, but it was not properly buckled and came off as he hit the surface of the water.

The U.S. Coast Guard was called in as well as the Macomb County Police to help with the search.

His body was recovered Saturday.

“We realize that this is a most difficult time for the family and friends of this man, and our thoughts and prayers go out to them,” said Lt. Ben Chamberlain, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit spokesperson. “We want to remind everyone who goes out on the water to understand the risks, always be vigilant to help minimize accidents, always wear a life jacket and have a working knowledge of your safety equipment.”
