Car enthusiasts across London are planning a memorial cruise for a man who died in a crash last weekend on the campus of Western University.

Jan “Jay” Broz died as a result of a single vehicle crash Jan. 18 on Perth Drive, south of Windemere.

Two other people, including the driver were seriously injured.

The ride begins 8:30 p.m. Sunday night in the Sears parking lot at Oxford St. and Wonderland Rd.

It will pass through Western’s campus, proceed downtown and will end at the McDonald’s on Wellington Rd. south of the 401.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help Broz's mother pay for the funeral.

Over $4500 has been raised of the $10,000 goal.

There is also an account set up at the TD Canada Trust branch at Jalna and Bradley.

Elton Sabino, 23, of London is facing two counts of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death among other charges.

London police say Sabino has been released from custody, but he and the other passenger remain in hospital in fair condition.

Sabino is scheduled to appear in court in the coming weeks.

"It's very heartbreaking, very heartbreaking," says Chris Bjelis, Broz's best friend.

"He (Broz) was all about cars. Fixing cars, driving cars, he loved fast cars. That's what he was all about," says Bjelis.

He says there is also a much larger message he hopes others will get out of this tragedy.

"Do not go into the car with people who are drinking and driving. Take their keys, do whatever you have to do. Do not drink and drive. I miss him. I miss him. I miss him so much," laments Bjelis.
