Businessman and mayoral hopeful Paul Cheng released his platform Thursday morning, calling for "Simplicity, sustainability and prosperity."

Cheng would like to see the use of consultants go by the wayside, until projects reach their final stage, with city staff taking on initial reports on wide range of projects.

He says the city is wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars on outside consultant studies that delay projects and get forgotten.

Cheng also wants to simplify city hall - to run it like a business with accountability through strong leadership.

Among his objectives:

  • Run city hall like a business with accountability through strong leadership
  • Cut the wage of the mayor in half until London's unemployment rate is lower than the provincial average
  • London must compete to global standards
  • Rebuild London with no personal agenda

In addition, Cheng wants to increase funding to ensure children go to school with proper nutrition and to ensure the city has a 100 per cent high school graduation rate.

Cheng said in a statement he will also advocate increased funding for the homeless.

"Employers choose to set up shop and live where the infrastructure is efficient, clean and safe. Period. The basics. Not the arts. Not downtown amenities, but efficiency, cleanliness and security."

In the longer term he is also calling for unified, city-wide bike paths and addressing railroad tracks that cut through the city.
