Sarnia police have charged a 22-year-old man after a dog was found severely injured in a dumpster.

Officers were called to the 900 block of Colborne Road on Oct. 19 after being contacted by a concerned citizen who found a small dog alive in a dumpster, wrapped in garbage bags and suffering significant injuries.

An investigation involving the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Sarnia police found the dog had been left in the dumptser for several days.

Due to the severe injuries sustained by the dog it was euthanized.

On Tuesday, a 22-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the OSPCA through the Sarnia District Humane Society or Sarnia police at 519-344-8861 Ext. #6191.
