A Grade 6 student at Lester B. Pearson School has won a national writing contest called 'The Meaning of Home.'
Londoner John Latozinsky's essay was chosen from over 5,000 entries. He will be given the award at a school assembly on Feb. 10.
The contest asks Grade 4, 5 and 6 students across Canada to write about what home means to them.
His essay begins,
"Home is a place, like no other place can compare.
"It gives a wonderful feeling that everybody should share.
"It is the place where you find lots of new things to discover
"It’s the place where all your injuries recover.
"When you look at it you smile so bright.
"So you think to yourself, what a beautiful sight."
The top prize is $1,000 for the student's school, a pizza party for their class and a chance to choose a Habitat for Humanity build to be awarded $50,000.
Five runners-up also get $5,000 donations to local Habitat for Humanity affiliates.
For every entry Genworth Canada donates $5 to Habitat for Humanity, and the 5,124 entries in the 2015 contest mean $25,620 is being donated.
