London's Damian Warner wins decathlon gold at Commonwealth Games

GLASGOW - Canada's Damian Warner has won gold in the decathlon at the Commonwealth Games.

The 24-year-old from London, Ont., recorded a score of 8,282 for the victory that comes a year after he won bronze at the world championships.

It was Warner's first decathlon of the season. He was sidelined earlier in the year with a leg injury.

Hammer-thrower James Steacy of Lethbridge, Alta., also won gold Tuesday with a toss of 74.16 metres.

Kate Van Buskirk of Brampton, Ont., also made the podium, winning bronze in the women's 1,500 in 4:09.41.
