It's been a busy Homecoming for London Police.

Thousands of Western students and alumni have gathered in the Richmond and Broughdale Ave. area to celebrate Homecoming.

Festivities got underway earlier in the morning as revelers were preparing for the Homecoming game vs. University of Toronto.

Emergency crews have responded to several calls in the neighbourhood to deal with students passed out from excessive alcohol consumption.

Fire trucks and ambulances have had a difficult time navigating through the massive crowds that have gathered on the streets and sidewalks.

"We've got people in medical distress, trying to get Fire, EMS down roadways with difficulties. We're doing our best just to block Broughdale and get people off street for everybody's safety," says London Police Cst. Ken Steeves.

Many students have also ignored requests from London police and are partying on top of rooftops.

Last year, the captain of Western's cheer-leading team was ticketed when the group performed a routine in the middle of the street.

Homecoming organizers have met with police several times to discuss how officers will monitor the situation this year to ensure everyone's safety.
