Carlos Platero, 25, was sentenced to six-and-a-half years behind bars after a vicious attack three years ago that left another man with lasting brain injuries.

The incident occurred after a student house party on Fanshawe College Boulevard on May 29th, 2011.

The court heard Platero was drunk and high on cocaine when he got into a fight with 26-year-old Vanna Chun.

After the victim had been beaten to the ground, Platero reportedly stomped on the victim's head 15 times.

Chun had to be put into a medically induced coma and continues to deal with the injuries.

Platero pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and expressed remorse in June, and at his sentencing the court heard he had lived a life filled with violence.

Platero's lawyer Gord Cudmore says "The assault itself - it was a very vicious assault - as the judge found, he also found that Mr. Platero was making substantial improvements in his life and his lifestyle...I think at the end of the day the sentence imposed was a very fair one."

The judge in the case acknowledged Platero's remorse and felt he was sincere.
