London City Council is looking at posting warning labels on gas pumps.

One councillor is hoping warning labels will force motorists to think about how using gasoline affects our environment, much like how warning labels on cigarette packages warn smokers of the health dangers.

Councillor Jesse Helmer put forth the idea at the Civic Works Committee meeting Tuesday and council had already looked at the idea in the past. Now council is leaning towards cooperating with gas retailers on the issue instead of implementing a bylaw.

The issue will be considered again later this summer - that's when city staff are expected to report back on it.
