Municipal officials have ended a localized emergency declared for part of the Indian Hills Golf Course and a nearby subdivision.

The emergency was declared nearly two weeks ago when natural gas was found bubbling up from a pond on the golf course.

Following a meeting with property owners and experts on Monday, the Municipality of Lambton Shores says, "there has been sufficient information provided...to cancel the emergency declaration."

Officials say there has been a significant decrease in the naturally-occurring gases and the situation is being managed in a localized area on the golf course.

Air and water quality monitoring, underground investigation and geological data collection in the area continues.

The golf course remains closed, but maintenance on greens and fairways is ongoing to ensure it can re-open as soon as possible.

In a statement, Deputy Mayor Dog Cook thanked the Kettle and Stony Point First Nation and the Indian Hills Golf Course for their co-operation and open communication with area residents.
