The public inquiry into last June's deadly collapse of the mall in Elliot Lake, Ont., starts Monday.

As many as 75 witnesses are expected to testify before Commissioner Paul Belanger.

The two-phased inquiry will try to uncover why the roof-top garage caved in, and whether the emergency response was adequate.

Two women died in the collapse at the Algo Centre Mall.

Commission counsel, who have pored over thousands of documents, say they are confident they will get to the bottom of the tragedy.

Belanger, who will make an opening statement today, hopes to issue his report with recommendations by January.
