Former NHL goalie Curtis Joseph was in London Saturday to help kick off a campaign that will see renovation work on the Oakridge Arena.

Lowes Home Improvement has donated $50,000 for the work at the arena

Lowes is also a sponsor of the Oakridge Aeros hockey program, which plays in the Oakridge arena.

Joseph is a former Toronto Maple Leaf and Team Canada player.

Joseph joined in on the festivities at the Lowes’ store on Fanshawe Park Road West, along with hockey players from the Oakridge program.

He signed autographs and posed for photos.

As the father of three boys who play hockey, Joseph says he realizes there is a need for rink improvements across the province as so many kids love hockey.

“It’s a no brainer for me to be part of this program. I grew up in a runk and I’m still in a rink.”

Joseph says his oldest son has been drafted by the London Knights, which gives him a tie to the city.

Joseph also plans to be in Sarnia on Sunday in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
