Temperatures are expected to remain in the low 30s through the weekend as a period of hot and humid weather settles over southwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada issued Heat Warnings for southwestern just before 11 a.m. Wednesday.

It will be 31 degrees and sunny today in London. Humidex values through Sunday are expected to reach 40 degrees at times.

London should see temperatures return to below 30 degrees by Monday, but in some areas, such as Windsor, temperatures are forecasted to remain at or above the 30 degree mark well into next week.

Remember to stay well hydrated and to keep out of the sun as much as possible if spending extended periods of time outdoors.

Heat illnesses include heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat fainting, heat edema (swelling of hands, feet and ankles), heat rash and heat cramps (muscle cramps).

Symptoms of heat illness include:

  • dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting
  • headache
  • rapid breathing and heartbeat
  • extreme thirst and
  • decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine

If you experience any of these symptoms immediately move to a cool place and drink liquids, especially water.

Children and pets should not be left in vehicles.
